Philip and Marlene Badger purchased land which now forms the Lenches Lakes site in 1971 for market gardening – which included established pear orchards, and large pond. As the market gardening trade began to decline, they sought other areas of income – Bed and Breakfast, caravan and camping, fly fishing and property rental, converting the cold store into a commercial rental property. In 1992/3 the two lakes were drained and deepened, opening for fishing in 1994. They are now well established and naturalised set amongst forty acres of unspoilt beautiful Worcestershire countryside.
Spring Lake (the top lake) is fed by a strong spring of crystal clear water, which then overflows into Whitsun Lake (the bottom lake). Each lake has a character all it’s own. Spring Lake with it’s open views and natural reed bed is the most popular in the summer months, with at least 16 stands all with good back cast. For the more discerning fisherman Whitsun Lake with equally good stands and tree-studded island, offers a special secluded atmosphere, which also give protection from the winter winds.
Stocking is carried out on a regular basis, with quality Rainbow, Blue, Tiger and the occasional Brown Trout weighing between 2lb – 6lb. They are sourced to provide a strong fighting ‘fit’ fish, which result in challenging and rewarding catches. Constant husbandry throughout the year, especially during the summer months, keeps the waters weed free and the banks neatly mown.
