Open Water Lifeguard Qualification 2026
Once again we are very proud to be hosting an Open Water Lifeguard Qualification run by the Royal Life Saving Society
This will be held over three days at a cost of £250 per person.
The dates and times are:-
Sat 12th April 2026 – 9am – 5pm
Sat 25th April 2026 – 9am – 5pm (May start later)
Sun 26th April 2026 – 9am – 5pm (May finish late due to the examination)
INFORMATION ABOUT THIS AWARD
The Open Water Lifeguard (OWL) qualification aims to keep the rapidly increasing number of open water swimmers in the UK safe. This is the three-day, full OWL qualification,You will learn all the skills needed to provide supervision and rescue cover for planned, organised and risk-assessed activities in open water (still / non-tidal).
The Open Water Lifeguard qualification enables candidates with no previous lifeguard experience to become qualified. By attaining this qualification candidates will have been assessed as competent to provide supervision and rescue cover for planned, organised and risk-assessed activities in open water (still, non-tidal).
The Open Water Lifeguard Qualification is valid is 2 years and is independently assessed. The candidate manual and trainer resources help the Trainer Assessor deliver through the three sections:
Section 1
The Open Water Lifeguard, environment, hazards and supervision
Section 2
Responding to an emergency and taking action
Section 3
CPR and First Aid
New candidates – 20hrs
Pre-requisites
Must be 16 years of age at the date of assessment.
Be able to meet the following criteria:
Confident in open water
Able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/ open water swimming continuously on their front and showing urgency,
Able to submerge under the water confidently
WHAT TO BRING
Swimming gear – costume/trunks
Towel, shower gel
Wet suit
Bright swimming hats
Goggles
Antibacterial gel
Lunch
Drinks
Water bottle
Shorts and T shirt to go in the water
Footwear to go in the water
Whistle
Warm clothing – including hat and gloves
Pad, pen
